Alberto La Rosa Rojas

Assistant Professor of Theology and Ethics,
Interim Director Hispanic Ministry Program

Alberto La Rosa Rojas was born and raised in the port city of Callao, Peru, where he learned to love soccer, salsa music, and Peruvian food. His experience as an immigrant informs and fuels his research which explores the meaning and importance of migration and home for the Christian life. His research addresses the challenges migrants face beyond the border as they seek to cultivate a flourishing common life with their non-immigrant neighbors.

Dr. La Rosa received his Th.D. in Theology and Ethics from Duke University (2022) with a dissertation titled, “God’s Journey Home: Toward a Theology of Migration and Home from the Americas.”  He has taught courses in the United States, El Salvador, and Peru. He has also written a number of book reviews and book chapters, including “A Migrant at the Lord’s Table:  A Reformed Theology of Home,” included in Reformed Public Theology: A Global Vision for Life in the World. Dr. La Rosa is a licensed candidate for ordination in the Reformed Church in America, Holland Classis.

“In Latino/a communities, we talk about the importance of doing theology en conjunto-together. I view my calling as one of guiding students on a journey en conjunto where, by the Spirit’s grace, we might delight in the beauty of the Triune God, be transformed by the truth revealed in the crucified Christ and his crucified peoples, and taste and see the goodness of our created cosmos. I’m excited to join the WTS community where we share a common goal of serving and loving the people of God.”
